Cruise Essentials Checklist: What to Pack (and Actually Use) on Your Next Cruise

Cruising has become one of my favorite ways to travel. Unpack once, wake up somewhere new every day, and enjoy endless ocean views. But if you’re new to cruising (or even if you’re not), there are a few game-changing cruise essentials that can make your trip so much smoother.

Packing for a cruise doesn't have to be overwhelming. After several cruises (and learning what I never actually use), I've narrowed my packing list down to the essentials that make every trip easier. Whether it's your first cruise or your tenth, these are the items I never leave home without.

🚢 Cabin Organization:

✅ Magnetic hooks

✅ Over-the-door organizer

✅ Packing cubes

✅ Foldable laundry bag

💧 Hydration & Drinkware:

✅ Ninja Thirsti bottle (or reusable water bottle)

✅ Reusable straws

🎟️ Onboard Must-Haves:

✅ Lanyard for cruise card

✅ Cruise line app (downloaded)

✅ Highlighters or pens for daily schedule

✅ Small crossbody bag or belt bag

🧼 Toiletries & Meds:

✅ Seasickness bands or ginger tablets

✅ Sunscreen

✅ Lip balm with SPF

✅ Travel-size first aid kit

✅ Pain reliever, antacids, allergy meds

👗 Clothing & Extras:

✅ Swimsuits

✅ Swim cover-up

✅ Lightweight jacket or cardigan

✅ Formal night outfit (optional)

✅ Comfortable walking shoes

✅ Sandals or flip-flops

✅ Hat + sunglasses

✅ Towel clips or bands

📸 Excursion Gear:

✅ Dry bag

✅ Waterproof phone pouch

✅ Portable phone charger

✅ Small backpack or day bag

✅ Camera or GoPro (optional)

✅ Multi charging cable

✅ Charger Block (DO NOT purchase one with an extension cord. Those are not allowed on cruise ships.)

💡 Bonus Tips:

☐ Bring a few $1s & $5s for tips

☐ Leave room in your suitcase for souvenirs!

☐ Check your cruise line’s prohibited items list
